The Pioneer Middle School 6th grade classes of Amy Schaper, Frank Guzzetta and Kaitlyn Leavoy held a writing celebration on Nov. 21 that challenged students to come up with their best poem.

The writing process began with analyzing a series of poems that range in topic from watermelons, deer prints, lockers and cats. Students then decided on a topic about which they had strong feelings and emotions.

From there, students wrote and revised. Emphasis was placed on using description, action and figurative language,

Parents and other family members were invited to take part in the celebration.
