Support is growing for a scholarship being established in memory of one of Pioneer's most beloved administrators.

Former Pioneer Middle School principal Melissa Prorok died early this year following a battle with cancer. A scholarship is one way Ms. Prorok's bright light can continue to shine on for generations.

On May 8, a check for $1,300 was presented to Superintendent Nicholas Silvaroli by Middle School teacher Allison Schwab, Pioneer High School teacher Rachel Smith, and Arcade Elementary principal Kerry Slocum. Ms. Slocum was once Ms. Prorok's assistant principal.

The money came from a group of Ms. Prorok's Forever Friends, who gathered recently to celebrate her first heavenly birthday. The group dressed in Buffalo Bills gear to celebrate her fun, fabulous life and to share wonderful memories.

Each friend lit a candle to honor the bright light Ms. Prorok was to each of them. In addition, they collected a monetary donation.

The first Melissa Prorok Memorial Scholarship will be presented at Pioneer Commencement in June.
