Arcade Elementary Principal Kerry Slocum sent the following message home to parents on Jan. 31:

Dear Arcade Elementary Families,

Here’s hoping that wild winter weather has passed! We are forging ahead here at school, and by the time you see this note, our UPK classes will have had their visit from our own Arcade Arlene, letting us know whether we’ll have an early spring or six more weeks of winter! (I’m sure we’ll have a video for you on our Facebook page…)

Our students and staff have been working on being optimistic in January, and we’ll focus on respect for February. We’ve been working at letters and reading, numbers and math, problem solving, perseverance, and coping skills for when things don’t go our way. We cannot overemphasize the importance of getting a good night’s sleep so that our bodies and brains can rest and integrate everything they’ve learned. We’re also spending a good amount of time playing outdoors and being active indoors, and we ask you to partner with us in encouraging healthy habits, so our students continue to learn and grow.

Next weekend (Feb. 7-8) is a big one for Arcade, as it’s Winterfest! Please come into town to see the royalty pageant, check out the student art show, race a box sled, run in the 5K or kids’ run—and there are so many more activities! Information and registration forms are available on the Arcade Winterfest Facebook page. We also have box sled and race forms at the greeter’s desk if your child needs them.

Sincerely,

Kerry Slocum, Principal
