A teacher on special assignment will be the next director of Pioneer Athletics.
Chris Edwards, a former tennis, football and wrestling coach, has been appointed to succeed Bill Weidner as Athletic Director upon Mr. Weidner's retirement in June.
Mr. Edwards is a current Pioneer High School Physical Education teacher and coach of the flag football team. He is a 1991 Pioneer graduate. He and his wife Addie have four girls (Shay, Ellie, Avery and Camryn) enrolled at Pioneer.
Mr. Edwards was appointed at the Feb. 13 Board of Education meeting.
Superintendent Nicholas Silvaroli said, "Chris is the perfect choice given his experience, skill set, and knowledge of our Physical Education and athletic program. With Bill’s assistance, I anticipate Chris will begin to learn and settle into the role during the remaining months of the school year. I’m excited for Pioneer and to provide the opportunity to Chris to lead and influence a program very near and dear to his heart."
"A huge thank you to everyone for making this happen," Mr. Weidner said. "There is not a better person on this planet for this job than Chris Edwards. He has been a sounding board and great asset to me for the past seven years."
Mr. Edwards said, "I am honored to be named the next Athletic Director. Pioneer is a place that is very special to me and my family. I hope to help carry on the great athletic foundation that we have here at Pioneer. Go Panthers!"
