Pioneer School District will begin the 2023-24 seeking administrative staff, but will have leadership positions covered for the start of school.
Superintendent Nicholas Silvaroli sent a recent memo to staff to update the situation. He said Katelyn Welker had resigned as Pioneer High School principal as of August 1. An assistant principal, Joseph Cappadonia, will be acting high school principal until further notice.
Mr. Silvaroli said another assistant High School principal, Michael Jansma, will shift over to Pioneer Middle School as an assistant principal. The district has posted for two assistant principal positions and hopes to have them filled by late September. Until then, other administrators will help in leadership roles at the high school.
At the middle school, Richard Spinelli is acting principal during the continued absence of Melissa Prorok. Mr. Spinelli has been assistant principal at Pioneer Middle since last winter.
At Arcade Elementary, Kerry Slocum is acting principal for 2023-24, and at Delevan Elementary, Matthew Langworthy will begin his first full year as principal.
In addition, the district is canvassing for leadership in the Special Education and Curriculum/Instruction departments following resignations.
Mr. Silvaroli said, "I’m committed to not just filling our administrative needs, but assembling an administrative group that is passionate about Pioneer, can work together effectively as a team, and believes in and can carry out my leadership philosophy. We’ll get there!"
