District recently welcomed its sixth School Resource Officer (SRO), in
partnership with the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.
ABOVE: Deputy Joe Miller has joined Pioneer as School Resource Officer.
The new SRO is
Deputy Joseph Miller, a seven-year veteran of the sheriff’s department who also
served in the U.S. Army.
“Joe was interviewed by the district and was selected for his
excellent training, student-centered approach to resolving issues, and his
drive to be an outstanding SRO for the Pioneer Central School District,” Superintendent
Benjamin Halsey said.
Deputy Benjamin Shields was SRO for two years at Pioneer and is
leaving for a similar position with Gowanda Central School. He is a Pioneer alum.
“Ben has served our Pioneer community extremely well, with
expertise, compassion, humor, and dedication to our students, families and
staff,” Mr. Halsey said. “I am thankful for his service in this capacity. I am also happy for Ben with his new
assignment as it is close to his home and the district in which his family
works and his children attend. He will
do great things and we wish him all the best.”
