Melynda "Mindy" Schneider - Brown, Class of 1998.
Mindy received a scholarship to attend UB where she received a Bachelor's of Science in Environmental Science, summa cum laude. She did three internships in college to gain more experience and then worked in the Florida Keys at Newfound Harbor Marine Institute educating students about marine biology. Her job entailed giving kids hands on lab experiences snorkeling the reefs.  Mindy also met her future husband there and they ended up settling in Cape Coral, FL.

Mindy now works for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, managing 180,000 acres of estuaries that are protected as Aquatic Preserves. She has been here since 2004 and loves every aspect of the job, which is very diverse and includes: water quality, bird rookery and seagrass monitoring, archaeological/cultural submerged resource monitoring, lots of data management and publication, education/outreach and permit review for proposed activities (docks, marinas, dredging, etc). Mindy also coordinates diving certification and dive activities for the southwest FL region and enjoys being out on (or in) the water.

Mindy has two kids, Alexander (7) and Annabella (10) who are doing great at school and soccer. Mindy and her husband help coach their teams, and also support a mini zoo (2 dogs, 2 chickens, fish and a snake) and enjoy traveling.
