Pioneer Central Schools

Karen Insley
Math Curriculum Coordinator
I grew up on a 2nd generation family farm in Scio, NY.  I attended SUNY Geneseo for my Bachelors degree, SUNY Buffalo for my Masters degree and am currently enrolled online at SUNY Stony Brook for my Administrative Certificate.  I have 23 years of experience in the classroom teaching 5th grade Math through AP Calculus AB in 5 different school districts in Allegany and Steuben counties.
Although I am employed by Cattaraugus Allegany BOCES I work in Pioneer School District 60% of the time.  My focus in Pioneer is to support teachers in the PreK – 12th grade Math curricula.  I am also supporting teachers in Science across the same grade levels.  I assist with Data Analysis (State and Local) and implementing an instructional plan based on results of those assessments.
My husband and I moved with our three children to Lime Lake in June 2015.  Our oldest attends D’Youville College in the Physician Assistant Program, while the younger two attend school in Pioneer.
Colleen Root
5-12 ELA Curriculum Coordinator

During the past four years, I have had the pleasure of supporting curriculum at Pioneer CSD, and collaborating with the remarkable educators, staff, and administrative team, in order to enhance teaching and learning.  I have enjoyed the positive, supportive relationships that I have built with the school community in the elementary setting, and look forward to meeting the needs of the middle and high school teachers, as I transition my role from elementary curriculum support, to middle and high school.

My time is divided into 80% at Pioneer and 20% supporting the other 22 component districts within CABOCES. During the four days per week that I am working at Pioneer, I will be in the high school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and in the middle school on Wednesdays and Fridays.  My office is located in the IT department at the high school, and I will be in the Curriculum Office during my days at the middle school.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me in regard to your instructional or curriculum needs.

I earned my Bachelors of Arts in English from SUNY Cortland, Masters in  Childhood Education 1-6 from University at Buffalo, with a focus in reading,  and I am currently working toward my Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership through SUNY Stony Brook.

Sarah Wittmeyer
K-4 ELA Curriculum Coordinator
I grew up close by in West Valley, NY. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in English Adolescence Education from SUNY Fredonia and my Master’s Degree in Education with a focus in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Walden University. I taught English at Fillmore Central School at both the middle school and high school levels. My husband and I live in Boston, NY with our 8 month old daughter and our two dogs.

As an employee of Cattaraugus Allegany BOCES, I will be working in the Pioneer District 80% of the time as a Curriculum Coordinator, primarily focused on ELA at the elementary level. I look forward to using my experience in the classroom to provide support to teachers here at Pioneer. My priority is to build relationships and rapport with teachers while learning the culture of each elementary building. I’m excited to hear more about the successes for each grade level in the recent years as I spend time getting to know everyone. I will work collaboratively with teachers and administrators to address the needs of each building and grade level.

In the next few weeks, I plan to come around and meet teachers in each building. I have designated days of the week to be split between the two buildings so that I can work to get into classrooms, see teaching in action, and learn more about what makes each elementary building unique. I will plan to be available to Arcade Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Delevan on Thursdays and Fridays. It is important to note that regardless of the day, I will be available to each building needs as they arise, regardless of the day of the week.

As I transition into this role, I will be working closely with Colleen Root to learn what initiatives are in place at each building and meeting with building principals to learn more about these initiatives, the culture of each building, and to observe data meetings. Eventually, I look forward to developing agendas that will be addressed during summer work.

My main office will be located in the Arcade building, but I can be reached at or at extension 9458.
